Subjects such as Art, Sport and Music are being dropped from the school curriculum for subjects such as Information Technology. Many people children suffer as a result of these changes.
To what extent would you support or reject the idea of moving these subjects from school curriculum?
As the technology is rapidly improved, Information Technology becomes a subject that should be learned. There have been some changes on the school curriculum by changing credit study from Art, Sport, and Music into Information Technology (IT). The idea behind this is to make students stay updated to technology. Others say that IT subject is not an easy subject and students find it difficult to adapt on the changes.
Including IT as one of the subjects to learn in school has given some benefits. For example, we can see many young and rich CEOs who run start-up companies. Learning IT has helped them to turn their ideas into software applications that earn billions of money. Other than that, we also include IT into our daily activities, starting from our messaging, electronic payment, etc. That's why IT is such an important thing to learn.
On the other hand, students who find difficulty in learning IT are suffering. Some people believe that children are unique and they have their own interest. People who love IT usually have better logical thinking compare to ones who don't and people who love art, sport, and music usually don't have good logical thinking. So, we can't force students to like IT and think logically. Art, Sport, and Music are also important to build students' creative thinking and improve their motor skills.
In my opinion, we shouldn't replace subjects like Art, Sport, and Music with IT. We still need those subjects because some students have interest on that. Instead, we can include IT into those subjects. We can give an art assignment that includes IT like web designing, or making a mix of video and music using some software for music assignment. If we can include their interest and IT, they will learn IT by themselves without even realizing it.
